Meet Korie
Hi there my name is Korie,
Hi my name is Korie. I came to the Community house on Broadway due to being homeless and suffering from drug addiction. I had been dealing with homelessness for about eight months.
Before coming to the Community House I was living in a tent in my mother in laws front yard. I was in the middle of a divorce from a man that was very abusive. I was dealing with the addiction and abuse for almost 20 years. It impacted my life in a negative way. I was always struggling, living in a car doing doordash to make money daily to survive. I was working hard to care for my son who was also in addiction trying to speak life into him and hoping he would want to join me on my journey to recovery.
One day I was just fed up with living the life I was living. I was sick and tired of living day to day not having anywhere warm to stay and not ever having food. I decided to go to treatment and seek a better life. While in treatment I met a friend that had mentioned they were living at the Community House. When I got out of treatment I still had nowhere to go but I stayed clean and slept in my car that night. The next day I ran into my friend from treatment and they told me there was a spot at the Community house so I called and secured a place to stay.
I received so much help while living there. I went through SUD and graduated. I had a lot of mental and emotional support from my case manager Jane. She helped me stay on track with the program. Jane informed me there was an opportunity to complete the CNA program. I was super excited about that opportunity. I then met with the employment specialist Nikkea and she assisted with completing all the steps to sign up for the program and obtain the items needed for the course. I did exceptionally well going through the course. I completed the program and secured employment at the Frontier working full time as a CNA. I am finally working and providing for myself. I have a warm home to go to everyday. My son is also living with me. He is clean and sober as well.
This is a great program to help people that are dealing with addiction, mental health problems, and getting them back on their feet.
